Route Descriptions
33 Mile
(New 2021 route)
The 33 mile route that starts from Crafter's Brew in Oak Ridge TN. The route follows the 62 and 100 mile route until mile 3. From that point the 33 mile route will turn right and go along the picturesque Melton Lake Park (home of the 2019 and 2021 USPRO National Time Trial Championships.
The route is flat to rolling until mile 9 when it tackles its most notable climb of the entire ride, New Henderson Gap. New Henderson Gap is a 1/2 mile climb that is steep, but has a super fast down hill as soon as you crest the climb.
After the climb, the route turns more rural and quiet and continues to roll along until it comes back on itself for a short time before returning to Crafters Brew a slightly different route.
Compared to 2019 and 2020, the route has 1 less climb, and 200 fewer feet of elevation gain. The 33 mile route has 1 (mile 15) rest stop. A link to the 2021 route is just below.
62 Mile (100k)
The 100k ride option takes riders through rolling valley roads that are wide open, yet quiet at the same time.
Once the route begins to turn back towards Oak Ridge, riders must tackle the relatively unknown Old Jacksboro Pike climb; a climb that is 1k long that features percent grades in upwards of 19%!
Once the climb is finished, the riders will begin making their way back towards the finish on roads that are even quieter, more scenic, and forested than the way out! The 62 mile ride will have new rest stops at mile 30 and 43. A link to the 2021 route is just below.
100 Mile
The 100 mile ride is the gemstone of the Secret City Century! The route starts with roads that are quiet, wide open, valley roads.
Around mile 40, the ride begins its' largest and most notable climb, the climb up Big Ridge. The Big Ridge climb is a one mile climb that averages a 6% grade. Once the riders descend the Big Ridge climb, they will get to enjoy more of the quiet, wide open, rolling valley roads they started the ride with.
As the riders turn towards Maynardville, they will have to tackle the NEW (replaces the Hickory Star climb) and relatively unknown 1/2 mile Beeler Hollow climb just before a winding downhill into the town. Once riders pass through Maynardville, they will be on rolling roads and hollows all the way back to the finish.
The 100 mile route is by-far the most scenic route of the 3 routes, and is mostly a rolling course. The 100 mile route will have NEW rest stops on miles 30, 57, and 80. The cutoff time for the 100 mile ride is 5:30pm. A link to the 2021 (has slight changes) route is just below.
